Being you have to pull the front of the car all apart to get the pump off as well (timing belt, covers, water pipes, etc) you might as well pull the engine out and put it on a stand and work on it that way. FYI, it will take you longer than 45 min get the pan off using the method described above if you have never tried it before. If you are sure it's your oil pump and not just the oring seal that goes around the shaft on the front, I would pull the engine.
